All 123 regions, most seasonal first

The measure is the same one we use for countries: what share of a region's 2025 tourist nights fell in its two busiest months. A high number means the year is squeezed into a short season.¹

Bars share one scale from 0 to 70%. Region names are Eurostat's. France's regions include its overseas regions, such as La Réunion and Guadeloupe.

What the ranking shows

Countries hide big differences. Five regions put more than half of their year's nights into two months, while 28 put less than a quarter.¹ Each country page lists its own regions.

Not every region peaks in summer. In 11 of 123 regions the busiest month was neither July nor August: Tirol (February), Vorarlberg (February), Ostschweiz (February), Guadeloupe (January), Martinique (January), Wien (December), La Réunion (October), Guyane (October), Mayotte (February), Praha (December) and Bucureşti-Ilfov (October).¹ The data shows when; it does not show why, and we have not guessed.

Which countries are included?

13 countries: Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland. These are the countries where Eurostat's 2025 figures were complete for every region at its 2 July 2026 update, and where the regions add up to the country's own total.¹

The other 22 countries on our country ranking are not here yet. Eurostat collects regional monthly figures once a year, and for Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia and Spain the 2025 regional figures were not complete. Türkiye is not in the regional dataset. Some small countries, such as Malta and Luxembourg, are a single region at this level, so their country page already covers them.²

How we checked the figures

For each country included, the regions' monthly figures add up to the country's own total in the same dataset, to within 0.1%. Against the national monthly figures on our country pages, which Eurostat updated later, in September, the largest monthly difference was 2.0% (Romania).¹³

What these figures cannot tell you

These figures are good at one thing: showing when a country's registered tourist accommodation fills up. Four things they cannot do.

They miss some small places. The counts cover hotels, holiday and short-stay accommodation and campsites, but countries may exclude establishments with fewer than ten bed places, so small guesthouses can be missing.²

Nights are not queues. A national monthly total cannot see how busy one old town, beach or museum is on a given day.

They say nothing about weather or prices. A quiet month may be quiet for reasons that matter to your trip. We have not published weather or price data here, because we have not verified any.

They are one year. These are 2025 figures. Patterns shift from year to year, and Eurostat revises its data as countries update their returns.
