What the site is
Gallivanting Gadabout publishes researched travel guides: when places are busy and quiet, the weather and daylight by month, and the official rules travellers ask about. Every page is labelled “Researched, not travelled”: we have not visited the places the pages describe, and the pages do not claim that we have.
The figures come from government statistics offices and other public bodies, such as Eurostat and the Japan Tourism Agency. Each page names its sources, links them and gives the date we read them. How we research explains the method, and the photo credits list who took each photo.
The site will be paid for by affiliate links to Agoda once our application to its affiliate programme is approved: if you book through one, we may earn a commission. The disclosure explains how that works.

Every figure is taken from a named source that we have read, and the page links to it so you can check it yourself.
- Commission never decides what we cover
No hotel or brand can pay to be listed, and whether a page earns commission never decides what goes on it.
- Dates on everything
Details change. Every page shows when its sources were read.
