How the comparison works

Choose up to three of the 35 European countries and 47 Japanese prefectures on this site. For each one we show how its 2025 nights were spread across the year, its busiest and quietest months, and how much of the year its two busiest months carried. The European figures are Eurostat's tourist nights; the Japanese figures are the Japan Tourism Agency's guest nights. They are different surveys, so compare the shape of each year, not the totals.

Where the guide has them, we add public holidays and the weather at one official station. Every row links back to the guide it comes from. We do not compare prices.
