When is Hong Kong busiest with international visitors, and when is it quietest?
August had the most visitor arrivals, including same-day visitors in 2025, with 10.3% of the year's total. September had the fewest, with 6.6%. That makes August 1.6 times as busy as September.1
Six months each had less than an average month's share of 8.3%: February, March, April, May, June and September.
Which nationality groups visit Hong Kong most?
The largest nationality group was Chinese Mainland, with 75.8% of visitor arrivals in Hong Kong in 2025, followed by South and Southeast Asia (7.5%) and North Asia (3.4%).1

Shares are of visitor arrivals in Hong Kong in 2025. The department publishes groups, not single countries: “North Asia” is Japan and South Korea only. Since 16 October 2024 the table has been grouped “by nationality/region” instead of by country or region of residence.
What exactly is counted?
The Census and Statistics Department publishes the Hong Kong Tourism Board's count of visitor arrivals, including visitors from the Chinese Mainland, Macao and Taiwan. It includes same-day visitors: the department's table of visitor types splits 2025 into 23,190,097 overnight visitors and 26,704,735 same-day visitors. Since arrival cards ended on 16 October 2024, the figures are grouped by nationality, not by where visitors live.1

June or September? May or October?
September was quieter than June, at 6.6% against 7.0%.
May was quieter than October, at 8.2% against 9.2%.
These compare months at similar distances from the middle of the year. They say nothing about weather, which we have not measured.
What these figures cannot tell you
Arrivals are not crowds. A month with many arrivals can still feel quiet if visitors stay briefly or spread out, and a national total cannot show how busy one city, park or beach is.
They say nothing about length of stay, weather or prices. This page has no weather or price data.
Same-day visitors are included. In 2025 they outnumbered overnight visitors, so a busy month here is not the same as a month when hotels are full.2
Visitors from the Chinese Mainland dominate. They made most of the year's arrivals, so the monthly pattern largely follows theirs.1
